The PTO is a
non-profit corporation whose principle purpose is to
promote communication and understanding among
parents, teachers, and administrators for the
benefit of the students of Enfield Street School.
The PTO also informs the ESS community of the needs
of the school and seeks support and participation in
various programs and activities to fulfill these
needs. Management of the PTO, or its Board of
Directors, includes parents/guardians of ESS
students and ESS principal, Sandra Ingalls.
The primary goal
of the PTO, besides communication, is to raise
monetary funds for the students of ESS so that our
children can enjoy a few “extras” that they normally
wouldn’t if PTO funds were not available. These
“extras” might include field trips, cultural arts
shows at monthly assemblies, Field Day in June, and
other fun events. Fundraisers (catalog sales) and
fundraising events are the primary source of funds
in order for the PTO to obtain its budgetary goal.
Another important
goal is to find a way to encourage parents/guardians
and teachers to participate in some way. The PTO is
successful when parents get involved in their
child(children's)’s education. Equally important is
for the students to see teachers “outside” the
classroom setting at PTO events. Participation takes
on various forms. Having volunteers for events and
activities is a necessity.
How the PTO Achieves Its Goals
As mentioned, the
PTO achieves its goals through the active
participation of ESS families. Communication between
teachers, parents and administrative staff is
critical. Volunteering in any way possible helps
tremendously and promotes a feeling of “family” in
the ESS community.
