First, a very big
thank you to all for your patience as we work toward
a safer parking lot experience. One additional piece
of information: Teachers are not on duty until 8:20
a.m. Students should not be dropped off prior to
8:20, unless they have been instructed to do so by a
teacher.
November 25, 2009
In an effort to improve the
level of safety at Enfield Street School, we will be
making some changes to our arrival and departure
routines. These procedures will become effective
on Monday, November 30.
Please remember that patience
and kindness go a long way in this busy world of
ours. Give this a few days. We will make adjustments
and changes based on your feedback. Please feel free
to share your comments with Mrs. Ingalls in person,
via
email or voicemail. This is a work in progress,
and we thank you in advance for your willingness to
give this a try.
One of the changes you will
notice is that there will now be a teacher on duty
at the designated drop-off area located just past
the handicapped parking spaces. Another change is
that students will be waiting indoors rather than
around back. Students in grades K and 1 will wait in
the cafeteria rather than in the front hall. This
will make for a more secure area that can be
monitored more carefully. Grades 2-6 will be
informed of their meeting areas. Students will
proceed to class after the first bell.

ARRIVAL
-
Quick Student Drop-Off:
There is no parking along the
grassy entrance side of the
school (the school fire lane). This
area will be for cars dropping off
children, and will be a moving line
of traffic. Parking your car in this
area will bottleneck traffic flow.
-
Escorted Student Drop-Off:
All students will now be waiting
indoors every day. If you need to
come into the building with your
child, please park in a marked
parking space. You may then escort
your child indoors. Students are NOT
allowed to walk unattended to and
from cars in the parking lot.
-
Bus Students: Procedure for exiting bus and
entering building remains the same.
-
Walkers and Bike Riders:
Will enter the building through
the door in front of the school by
Mrs. Barry's room, walk to the class
meeting spot, and sit with
classmates until first bell.

DISMISSAL
-
We now have
several new parking spots on the
exit side of the parking lot by
the fence. There is also a
crosswalk near the drop-off area
sign for students to cross to
cars parked in this section.
Once crossed, students need to
stay in the crosswalk between
the cars and the fence until
they reach their vehicle.
-
If you park
in the regular lot, you will
need to get out of your car and
walk to the front of the school
to meet your child. Students are
not allowed to walk into the
parking lot unattended.
-
A third
option is to pull up along the
grassy area entrance to the
school. This is a good choice if
you want your child to come to
you. I have been informed by
town officials that you can wait
in your car for your child,
however you cannot PARK here.
You cannot leave your car parked
in this area as it is a fire
lane. Please be aware that
drivers who leave their cars
parked in this section are
risking a ticket.

We would like to thank all of
you who have offered your time in the planning
stages of this effort. The Enfield Street School
Safety committee and the PTO have met on several
occasions to plan for this implementation. We will
continue to meet to make any needed adjustments.
Again, your
feedback and comments are most welcome. While
some of these changes may be an inconvenience, the
safety of ESS students is everyone's number one
priority.
